Active tropical cyclones:

  • Tropical Storm Danas (05W), located on the coast of China near Wenzhou. Refer to tropical cyclone advisories.

Disturbances/invest areas:

  • Invest 91W (east-southeast of Okinawa): A broad upper-level low pressure area with a weak surface reflection is located over the northern Philippine Sea, east-southeast of Okinawa. This low is interacting with the monsoon trough to form a broad monsoon gyre, which is producing a large area of highly disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Upper-level winds could be conducive for some gradual consolidation of this system during the next several days as it performs a wide loop into the East China Sea. Regardless of development, this system will produce widespread heavy rainfall over the region, including the Ryukyu Islands (including Okinawa), the Yaeyama Islands, and Taiwan during much of the week. For additional information, including possible warnings, refer to products from your local weather office.

Development potential through 48 hours: VERY LOW - 0%

Development potential through 7 days: LOW - 30%

  • Disturbance A (near the northernmost Northern Mariana Islands): A large area of disturbed weather is associated with the interaction of two surface troughs and an upper-level low pressure area. Environmental conditions are conducive for development, and a subtropical or tropical depression could form by Thursday or Friday as this disturbance moves generally northward.

Formation chance through 48 hours: LOW - 10%

Formation chance through 7 days: MEDIUM - 50%
