WPAC Tropical Weather Outlook - 7/3/25
Tropical Storm Mun is nearly at typhoon strength over open waters, while Invest 98W is likely to become the next named storm in the Pacific

Active tropical cyclones:
Tropical Storm Mun (04W), located well east-northeast of Iwo Jima. Refer to tropical cyclone advisories.
Disturbances/invest areas:
Invest 98W (northwest of Luzon): An area of low pressure now located near the western entrance of the Luzon Strait continues to produce a large area of loosely organized showers and thunderstorms. This system has failed to attain enough organization to be considered a tropical depression, but it continues to have a fairly well defined surface circulation, and its associated convection has increased further in organization during the past several hours. Environmental conditions are conducive for additional development, and only a slight increase in organization would result in the formation of a tropical depression or tropical storm. This system is forecast to meander in the Luzon Strait for a day or two before turning east-northeastward toward Taiwan. Interests in southern China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Batanes and Babuyan Islands should monitor the progress of this system. In addition, this system is contributing to areas of torrential monsoonal rainfall over portions of Luzon. Numerous rainfall warnings are in effect; for further information on this rainfall threat, refer to products from your local weather office.
