WPAC Tropical Weather Outlook: 6/11/25

Tropical Storm Wutip hanging out near Hainan Island while a new tropical depression forms east of Luzon

Active tropical cyclones:

  • Tropical Storm Wutip (01W), located southeast of Hainan Island. Refer to tropical cyclone advisories.

  • Tropical Depression (94W): A tropical depression (1004 hPa) is located near 17.7°N 125.5°E, well off the eastern coast of Luzon. Maximum winds are estimated to be 30 knots. This system does not currently meet warning criteria. The monsoonal area of low pressure located east of Luzon has continued to gradually become better organized with increased convective banding feeding into the monsoon trough. However, the system's circulation is very poorly defined and consists of multiple low-level cloud swirls rotating around an elongated centroid near the estimated center position. This system will soon be moving into a more hostile environment with strong northwesterly shear, which will likely further hamper its attempts to organize, and by Friday morning, interaction with Taiwan will likely end its development chances. This system is currently not expected to reach warning criteria, but could produce widespread heavy rainfall over portions of the Philippines, Taiwan, and the Yaeyama Islands.

Disturbances/invest areas:

  • None.

No additional tropical cyclones are expected during the next 7 days.
