WPAC Tropical Weather Outlook - 6/10/25

Tropical Depression 01W lurking near Hainan Island, invest 94W could be a messy rainmaker for Taiwan, the Yaeyamas, and Okinawa

Active tropical cyclones:
Tropical Depression 01W, located southeast of Hainan Island. Refer to tropical cyclone advisories.

Disturbances/invest areas:
Invest 94W (east of Samar Island): The large monsoonal area of low pressure located east of the Philippines has gradually increased in coverage and organization during the past 24 hours and has been redesignated an invest area. Although the system appears to be producing winds of 20 to 25 knots, scatterometer data indicates that the system's circulation remains poorly defined. Upper-level winds are only marginally conducive for development due to the close proximity of Tropical Depression 01W and a TUTT cell to the west and east respectively, but a tropical depression is still likely to form during the next day or two as the system moves generally north-northwestward. By the end of the week, upper-level winds are expected to become unfavorable for further development as the system interacts with the meiyu/tsuyu front in the East China Sea. Interests in Taiwan, the Yaeyama Islands, and Okinawa should monitor the progress of this system. In addition, the system will likely contribute to enhanced monsoonal rainfall across the Philippines through the end of the week.

Formation chance through 48 hours: MEDIUM - 50%
Formation chance through 7 days: HIGH - 70%
