Discussion:
This advisory is being written primarily to acknowledge that Iona has crossed from the Central Pacific to the Western Pacific. Although Iona is producing a great deal of intense convection, its circulation has become very ill-defined and ASCAT scatterometer data indicates that the circulation has likely opened up into a trough or wave. Because of this, Iona has dissipated. The intensity is listed as 30 kts based on T1.5 to T2.0 Dvorak fixes from PGTW and KNES, as well as a small area of 25 to 30 kt winds northeast of the estimated center location.
The remnants of Iona are forecast to move generally northwestward during the next couple of days as it rounds the southwestern periphery of a ridge of high pressure centered north of Hawaii. The strong shear affecting Iona is expected to persist, so redevelopment into a tropical cyclone appears unlikely.
This is the last advisory on Iona.
