Focus on Central Virginia - 8/27 through 9/2/25
Beautiful, fall-like weather comes to Central Virginia and will stick around for quite a while! Labor Day Weekend looks great, too!
Weather Headlines for Central Virginia:
Fall-Like Pattern — With Hurricane Erin long gone and high pressure dominating much of the eastern U.S., expect the next week or so to be quite pleasant with sunny skies, below normal temperatures and low humidity! The nights will even be a little chilly. A dry cold front will push through the area on Thursday to reinforce the fall-like weather.

National Weather Service high temperature forecast for Wednesday 8/27. Highs are generally in the upper 70s to around 80.
In Depth:
Hurricane Erin is long gone, and a strong cold front pushed through late last week. High pressure has built in, and that’s bringing much cooler and much less humid air into the region with sunny skies. This is one of those situations where there isn’t really much to say because the weather will just be that good for quite a while.

National Weather Service low temperature forecast for Thursday 8/28. Did anyone say mid to upper 50s? In late August? There could even be some upper 40s out west…
Tonight in particular will be quite chilly - with clear skies, temperatures will plummet after sunset, and lows will generally be in the mid to upper 50s, which is not very common for late August. Some parts of the area, mainly out west in Farmville, Louisa, and Lynchburg, could even see lows in the upper 40s.

National Weather Service forecast high temperatures for Friday 8/29. Highs in the low to mid 80s across the area.
We’ll skip Thursday since it will basically be a repeat of today - sunny skies, highs in the upper 70s to around 80 and lows in the upper 50s. Friday will be slightly warmer as a dry cold front (a frontal system with little in the way of moisture, i.e. no rain) pushes through the area. Humidity will still be quite low but temperatures will be in the low to mid 80s throughout much of the area, with cooler temps at the beaches. After the front passes through, we should be in for an absolutely gorgeous Labor Day Weekend with sunny skies, high temps in the upper 70s, and low temps in the upper 50s to around 60.
Here’s a summary of the next seven days’ weather for the Richmond area:
Day | High Temp | Low Temp | Conditions |
---|---|---|---|
Wed 8/27 | 78° | 52° | Mostly sunny and pleasant |
Thurs 8/28 | 80° | 55° | Mostly sunny and pleasant, increasing clouds after sunset |
Fri 8/29 | 84° | 60° | Mix of clouds and sun, clearing in the evening |
Sat 8/30 | 77° | 56° | Sunny and pleasant |
Sun 8/31 | 78° | 58° | Sunny and pleasant |
Mon 9/1 | 81° | 58° | Sunny and pleasant |
Tues 9/2 | 80° | 58° | Sunny and pleasant |
Although we’re approaching the peak of hurricane season, it looks like the tropics will remain quiet for the next week or two, with no significant tropical cyclone development expected during the next 7 days.
